Tasting - Barefoot Wine Pinot Noir

Tasting  - Barefoot Wine Pinot Noir

Name: Barefoot Wine
Variety: Pinot Noir
RegionCalifornia
Country: USA
Year: N/A
Price: $6

Wine Review:  Smooth, supple and warmly fruity, this is a cherry pie of a wine. Generous red- and black-cherry flavors are wrapped in soft tannins for a rich feel without being heavy. Small amounts of Zinfandel and Barbera were blended in. (Jim Gordon)

Wine Folly: Pg.150 : Pinot Noir as described by the Wine Folly has light tannins and a higher acidity component. I thought this descriptions was very applicable to the barefoot Pinot Noir that I tried. It also states how it generally goes well with duck, chicken, pork and mushrooms. While I haven't the wine with any food, I can see how this pairing could work.

My Review: This was my first time, that I know of tasting a Pinot Noir and I really enjoyed this wine. I liked that it had noticeable tannic components to it, but it was not over powering. I also really enjoyed the cherry flavors and subtle fruit flavors that I was picking up on. I would definitely have this wine again. I tried this wine without any food but would like to try it with some dinner in the future. I drank this wine at room temperature and that seemed to be a good temperature.

Tasting - Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio

Tasting  - Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio

Name: Santa Margherita
Variety: Pinot Grigio
Region: Alto Adige, Italy
Country: Italy
Year: 2020
Price: $21

Wine Review:  Beautifully balanced and refreshing Italian Pinot Grigio from one of the country's best-known producers of this wine. Santa Margherita was, in fact, the first to make Pinot Grigio back in 1961, and has led the way ever since. Crisp and lively with racy acidity for seafood and shellfish. Also works on its own as a chilled aperitif. (Natalie MacLean)

Wine Folly: Pg. 251: In the Wine Folly it mentions that some of the best Pinot Grigio wines are out of northern Italy, such as Alto Adige. It describes these Pinot Grigio's as having subtle tart fruit characteristics as well as high acidity. This was definitely true for the wine that I tasted and that high amount of acidity was not very pleasant for me.

My Review: Overall, this wine did not meet my expectation, especially for the price. I found it to be to dry for my liking. I also was surprised by the acidity of the wine and thought that is was somewhat over powering. Some of the flavors that I got were pear, and citreous flavors. I didn't have this wine with any food, however with the wines high acidity it may have been better with a dish to balance it out.

Tasting - Georges Deboeuf

Tasting  - Georges Deboeuf

Name: Georges Duboeuf Gamay Nouveau
Variety: Gamay Noir
Region: Beaujolais Nouveau
Country: France
Year: 1997
Price: ~ $15

Wine Review:  "The 2021 George Duboeuf, Beaujolais-Village Nouveau from the Burgundy wine region, offers fresh fruity aromas of sour cherry, fresh strawberry, rhubarb, violet and banana. This easy-drinking Gamay, shows powerful flavors of cherry, pomegranate, dandelion, plum and truffle. Enjoy!" (Christian Marcoux)

Wine Folly: Pg. 113, The wine folly describes Gamay as a fruity and floral wine, the fruity description was definitely true for this tasting. Additionally, it mentions that the wine is best in a cellar between 1-5 years. For this tasting, the wine had been stored for 26 years, and that is probably why it was so jammy.

My Review: Unfortunately this wine was cooked in storage. After opening the wine and pouring it out the color seemed to be more brown/copper. The smell was very jammy and very strong. After a small taste of the wine, I noted it as very acidic, and sweet and ended up dumping the rest out. I would like to try this brand of wine but a bottle that is still good.

Tasting - Barefoot Riesling

 Tasting - Barefoot Riesling

Name: Barefoot
Variety: Riesling
Region: California
Country: USA
Year: N/A
Price: $ 7.00

Winery Review: "Multiple stone fruit flavors define the Barefoot Riesling palate. Peach, nectarine, and mandarin notes contribute ripeness to this medium-to-full-bodied Riesling, as a hint of fresh lemon rounds the mouthfeel. The acidity is crisp and refreshing and helps wine fans clean their mouth from the sweetness. Fruity and savory, Barefoot Riesling has a compelling tasting profile. It is among the most pleasant whites, at least as California Rieslings are concerned." (Winepros.org)

Wine Folly: Pg. 158 While the wine folly talks about Riesling ranging from bone-dry to very sweet, this bottle of wine was definitely on the sweeter side. This is the second time now that I have had Riesling and still did not taste any notes of petroleum.

My Review: I found this wine to be overall very refreshing. The tasting notes that I found most prominent were definitely mango and pineapple. This wine had a very light body. I was impatient and don't think that I left it in the fridge long enough. Next time that I try it I will allow it to get a little colder. I also drank this wine on its own with no food.

Tasting - Bota Mini Pinot Grigio

Tasting  - Bota Mini Pinot Grigio

Name: Bota Mini
Variety: pinot Grigio
Region: California
Country: US
Year: N/A
Price: $5

Wine Review: "... this Bota Box Mini Pinot Grigio (500 ml) is exactly that - fresh. It was the perfect amount of wine to enjoy with a meal (two big glasses) and although the wine was not complex, it was a well-made commercial style wine, bright with fresh apple, pear, fine herb, citrusy notes and balanced acidity. A perfect pairing to vegetarian pizza topped with lots of sliced black olives." (Deborah Podergiel)

Wine Folly: Pg.149 As described, Pinot Grigio can range all the way from dry to sweet, and in this case, the wine was definitely on the dry side. While I was not able to taste any of the common taste descriptors of pinot Grigio such as peach or lemon, it was somewhat acidic.

My Review: As with the previous Pinot Grigios that I have tried, I enjoyed this one. I liked that it was not super sweet and predominantly dry, but still kept some qualities of fruit flavors such as the acidity of a orange. I had this wine with a spicy pasta dinner and the pairing was not terrific, I found that the pasta was overpowering the wine. I tried the wine later on its own and enjoyed it more than I did with the food.

Tasting - Giretto Pinot Grigio

Tasting  - Giretto Pinot Grigio

Name: Giretto
Variety: Pinot Grigio
Region: Delle Venezie
Country: Italy
Year: 2021
Price: $6

Wine Review: "Taking a sip reveals surprising depth of flavor with tons of green apple, lime and touches of tropical fruit in this tart and tasty wine. And while there's plenty of sweet tasting fruit, it's a fairly dry wine which isn't always common with Pinot Grigio at this low of a price point." (Jon Thorsen)

Wine Folly: Pg. 251. As stated about Pinot Grigio, I was able to pick up on the subtle tart fruit characteristics in the wine. I was also able to taste the acidity that is also commonly associated with Pinot Grigio. The flavor described that I really came through was green apple.

My Review: In general I have started to take a liking to Pinot Grigio when it comes to white wine and this one held true to that. I thought that this wine was very refreshing and I could really taste a bit of green apple as well as the acidity. The wine was on the dry side and I tried it with Havarti pepper jack cheese. I didn't feel like it paired great with the cheese but it went well with the salty crackers.
